TubmanWalker is the home of Rev. Dr. Shelley D. Best’s work at the intersection of leadership, spirituality, art, and social innovation. It is a platform for Creative Disruption®—supporting people and institutions who are navigating disruption, healing from exhaustion, or reaching for a more courageous future.
Through keynotes and public thought leadership, high‑level advisory partnerships, immersive retreats, contemplative practice, and healing‑centered art, TubmanWalker helps individuals and organizations move from fragmentation toward coherence, belonging, and renewed vision.
About Rev. Dr. Shelley D. Best
Rev. Dr. Shelley D. Best is an artist, yogi, minister, and social innovator who guides people and communities through disruption into clarity, resilience, and renewed purpose. She is the creator of Creative Disruption®, a modern approach to leadership and life that blends imagination, mindfulness, and grounded strategy. Her work helps people rise through uncertainty, reconnect with what matters, and lead with courage in times of change.
A graduate of Yale Divinity School and a nationally recognized figure in community leadership, Shelley is known for her ability to bring people together across differences, translate complex ideas into accessible insight, and guide teams and institutions toward more resilient and coherent futures. Across her practice—as speaker, advisor, retreat leader, contemplative teacher, and artist—she helps cities, organizations, and communities design environments where people feel seen, supported, and inspired to rise.
Why “TubmanWalker”?
TubmanWalker brings together the legacies of two women who reshaped what freedom and imagination could mean: Harriet Tubman, whose clarity and courage transformed lives, and Alice Walker, whose artistry and truth‑telling expanded cultural possibility.
Inspired by their gifts, TubmanWalker exists to support individuals, organizations, and communities as they build cultures where belonging, creativity, and purpose can flourish. The lantern in the logo is a nod to this lineage: a light carried through the dark, illuminating the way forward.
An integrated practice
Different entry points serve different needs, but everything within TubmanWalker is part of one integrated practice of Creative Disruption®:
Speaking – Keynotes, talks, and public conversations that offer language, stories, and frameworks for leading through disruption and reimagining culture.
Advisory – High‑level partnership for foundations, universities, arts institutions, faith‑based spaces, and social impact organizations seeking culture change, innovation strategy, and leadership support.
Immersive Experiences – Retreats, Purpose Reset, Sunrise Practice, and other gatherings that help people move through burnout, reconnect with purpose, and embody new ways of living and leading.
Healing Roots Art – Paintings and visual environments designed as contemplative sanctuaries, shifting rooms and institutions toward calm, coherence, and beauty.
From a conference keynote to a morning yoga class to a painting in a clinic waiting room, each element is part of the same invitation: to meet disruption with depth, clarity, and LovePower.
Who this work serves
TubmanWalker’s work especially supports:
Leaders, executives, and teams navigating transition, complexity, or culture change.
Artists and creatives seeking deeper expression, alignment, and impact.
Philanthropists and funders shaping the future of community and institutional investment.
Activists, organizers, and faith leaders building communities of justice, healing, and belonging.
Institutions and cities redesigning systems and spaces so people can truly thrive.
Shelley’s approach unites art, culture strategy, mindfulness, narrative work, and spiritual grounding to help people move through complexity with steadiness and imagination.
Philosophy: Creative Disruption®
Creative Disruption® begins with a simple truth: disruption is not an ending—it is an opening.
When people and institutions pause, listen deeply, and imagine again, they discover clarity where confusion once lived, courage where fear once held them, and new pathways where old structures have fallen away. This is how individuals grow, how teams evolve, and how communities become places of belonging and possibility.
